This is how it should be done.......

Caution: Villa tailing off again.....

Exactly the same!!
First 45 minutes Villa literally dominated the game. They didn't create an enormous amount of chances but enough to have been going in at half time a couple in front. Liverpool had shown nothing.
Exactly the same!!
Second half = complete no show from Villa, allowed Liverpool back into the game and it came as no great shock when Fernando Torres, easily inside the Top 10 World Strikers, took the opportunity presented to him by keystone cop like defending in the 93rd minute.
Exactly the same?
Is this the beginning of the end for Aston Villa's bright start to their push for Champions League football yet again? I think it could be and should be avoided against other top 6 sides for the remainder of the campaign.
After demoralising myself watching Villa and James Milner fritter away two of my bullets, I began to watch the recorded highlights of Bolton v Hull, just waiting for Phil Dowd, possibly the worst Premier League official ever, to start dishing out yellow cards, left, right and centre back. When the first one arrived at the 65th minute, having seen some of the challenges he had let go, I had resigned myself to losing more ammunition, until the white knight known as TmsWinners piped up on TWITTER with a four star NBA play tipping off in less than 15 minutes.
Oklahoma City Thunder -1, should I stick or should I twist.
Pulled the market up on BETFAIR, only to find them offering OCT +2.5, BANG.
Straight on it leaving me wondering what book he was playing with that made the bookmakers at the 'fair look like part-timers.
A couple of tweets later and I'd fired the rest of my rounds at this glorified netball match I couldn't even watch!!
Washington 98-110 Oklahoma! I tip my ten gallon to TmsWinners for the full reload.
Small mention to the England cricket side who wrapped up their first test win in South Africa this morning with relative ease, with confidence up and the better bowling attack, look for them to start well this coming Sunday in the third of four tests, and hopefully clinch a decisive win. *wait for weather and pitch reports before investment.
After basking in the glory of picking a winner I didn't back this morning, I get a text from this blog's resident horse tipster, who, over the festive period had developed a decent strike rate with his naps.
"no nap today but backing overlaw in 1:40 at Taunton."
Perhaps I should have paid more attention to the first three words of that text.
Gary Megson sacked by Bolton Wanderers. Next manager market, Paul Jewell heads the market, closely followed by Peter Reid and inevitably Mark Hughes. At a fancy 14.5 on BETFAIR, I'd be with Darren Ferguson.
Two more of the Big Four play tonight in Premier fixtures.
Manchester Utd v Wigan Athletic.
Portsmouth v Arsenal.
Odds on doubles not really great value for money, but at around 5/6 for Arsenal and Man Utd to take maximum points from vastly inferior opposition, I'll be using it to reload from this afternoons disappointing equine effort.
MAN UTD + ARSENAL WIN DOUBLE.
C'MON!!

Villa were good for 45....

Sundays first attempt started off really well, with the draw no bet, Aston Villa had created and missed chances in the first half, leaving me to think the second half would bring more of the same.
Unfortunately Villa didn't come out for the second half with anything like the same confidence, which took a further knock with the substitute appearance of Cesc Fabregas, who stayed on the pitch, rather remarkably, for just 28 minutes, scoring twice and taking every breath of wind out of Villa's already sagging sails.
I'd cooked and served a lovely roast pork joint as the second Premier League game of the day was kicking off, Manchester United v Hull City at the K.C Stadium (Hull).
With United trading at around 1/4, there was little value to be had so I plumped for Wayne Rooney to score at anytime at around 10/11.
The food and wine consumed earlier in the day led to me falling asleep after 15 minutes only to be awoken by the sound of Utd fans cheering Rooney's opener, after a which I slept a little sounder.
Having slept right through the second half I'd missed placing a handicap accumulator on the ealy evening NFL games.
I currently follow two U.S sports gurus for my NFL and NBA picks.
TmsWinners to be found at http://tmswinners.blogspot.com/
DavisDailyPicks to be found on Twitter and Facebook @DavisDailyPicks
Foolishly and slightly drunkenly, without checking out these two guys picks, I attempted a four team handicap rollup. Needless to say 2 or maybe 3 of the selections let me down, although if I had backed halftime handicaps, I may well have collected.
Bank Holiday Monday held another full set of soccer fixtures to get involved with and after sleeping in to allow the wine and rum to stop swinging my stomach round, arose just in time for Tottenham Hotspur v West Ham Utd.
Spurs were home bankers and their price reflected it so I stuck them in a televised double with Man City, who were away at the Dinglefuckers later that evening.
Not satisfied with that, I stuck a single on Jermaine Defoe to score at anytime.
With the score stuck at 1-0 to Spurs 75 minutes gone, I began to worry that West Ham couldn't be this poor for the full 90 minutes and that Harry Redknapp (spurs manager) may start changing strikers to try and finish the game off.
Five minutes later little Jermaine stuck away Tottenhams second to leave me clear of mind for the 3 o'clock kickoffs.
Not much to brag about with those, backed Blackburn to beat Sunderland which finished 2-2 and a four team acca which included Nottingham Forest, Everton, Rochdale and Swansea. Swansea had a man sent off after 10 minutes and held on for a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace and obviously the other 3 won.
Spent this morning and early afternoon watching England's cricket side gallop through the South African batting order and setup a nice early finish to the second test match, leaving England 1 up with 2 to play. I will say in a previous blog I forecast an England win. Didn't bet it!!
Couple of Premier fixtures tonight Aston Villa at home to Liverpool and Bolton at home to struggling Hull.
Aston Villa's recent home record against Liverpool holds a couple of defeats and quite a few draws.
Having seen Liverpool a few times recently and Aston Villa's good home form and the way they played for 60 minutes against Arsenal at the Emirates and the fact they owe me a few quid.
ASTON VILLA DRAW NO BET v Liverpool (7:45p.m k.o)
In the other game (not televised but extended highlights after the live match) we have what is turning into a relegation battle.
Bolton Wanderers have averaged 4.2 yellow cards in their last 5 home games.
Hull City have averaged 4.6 yellow cards in their last 5 away games.
OVER 3.5 CARDS IN BOLTON WANDERERS V HULL CITY GAME (7:45p.m k.o)

Xmas = Overindulgence

And still the food just keeps on coming!!
Not that I mind, despite my lean, handsome appearance, I can shift a plateful of calories as well as some of the best competitive eaters known to man.
And BOOZE, yeah love all the free booze swimming about, haven't been sober since Midday Christmas Eve.
Amazingly I managed to get by without thinking about sporting picks until Boxing Day morning, as I was up early to get rid of the previous days stuffing, Channel 4's The Morning Line reawakened the sleeping monster within known as FOOTBALL ACCA'S!!
So with an early payment of jobseekers allowance enabling me to dabble in the futures market (the future being 1 o'clock kick offs,) I started trawling through the Boxing Day fixture list.
Felt Tottenham were worth a single at odds against, even though Fulham are tidy at home and still do not get the recognition deserving of a side hugely progressed in recent seasons under canny stewardship of an internationally applauded manager.
Having seen the highlights, an entertaining 0-0 score draw with each team earning a point probably seemed the right result.
The first multiple I placed crashed and burned with both Newcastle and Cardiff City failing to take 3 points from their respective fixtures.
These results put a little pressure on the remainder of my Betfair balance as you are aware, times are hard.
Gold, Frankincense and Meurgh were replaced by West Bromwich Albion, Man City, Southampton and MK Dons. HALLELUJAH!
This set of results left me a little in front, which of course can't be left alone so I sprinkled a little on Sheff Utd to beat Leicester and a little more on Steve Gerrard to score anytime against Wolverhampton Dinglefuckers.
Sheff Utd had their chances but Stevie Gee obliged leaving me exactly where I started the day.
A further offering in the evening of wine, food and song left me longing for a day in front the box with my interests and 'er indoors, which I am now enjoying, whilst cooking a Sunday roast.
Of course the small matter of the 1 o'clock kickoff at the Emirates Stadium takes priority over me salting me spuds!
ASTON VILLA DRAW NO BET v Arsenal
C'MON!

I Hate Chelsea more than Arsenal now.....

Having been a part time Man United fan since the age of about 10, the first real club rivalry i paid a great deal of attention to was with Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger had swanned over here bringing flair filled, flowing footy and built a team that eventually won a Premier League title by completing the season totally unbeaten, a feat possibly never to be equalled.
Over the years this dislike has regretfully turned to admiration for a man who obviously loves to see football played in such a way as to entertain and dazzle.
WE SALUTE YOU, ARSENE WENGER.....
As for Chelsea, on top of them denying me a festive coupon on Boxing Day(sacrilege,) by relieving me of my final opinion funds for a short while, they are an arrogant bunch of whingers, unaccustomed to not being able to bully a side into admission, epitomised in general by the Evil Drogba. And as a final note on Sundays bummer, Zola is gallantly attempting at West Ham, an Arsene.
So as far as opinions go, at the moment I have none and until I clear some funds my blind following of TmsWinners(TWITTER) in all matters NFL and NBA have ceased.
Maybe I should save up and lump it all on Brazil for South Africa 2010?
I look forward now to Boxing Day and Kauto Stars utter domination of the King George field and Englands cricket side starting their stroll to a one - nil lead in the cricket!
C'MON!!!

Rock hard b'stards.......

Sunday 20th December
It is proper freakin' cold man! -3 outside, all around the country.
Now I'm no pussy but from the comfort of my sofa in a nice warm house, I'm watching grown men in short shorts, diving around in mud and snow chasing an egg shaped ball.
Brave or stupid?
Nearly got tempted into backing the home side in the first televised Heineken Cup(rugby union) match but abstained waiting for the football (soccer) to start.
At varying times flicking past England's cricket side holding on for a tame draw in the first test in S.Africa (that has been a drab game,) Gloucester, the aforementioned home side have fallen further and further behind. Almost feels like a win having no bet!
May be tempted into some NFL handicap picks later if todays main pick comes up trumps.
All I've got in my Betfair account is going on West Ham v Chelsea (English Premier League 4p.m kickoff) featuring OVER 2.5 GOALS.

Introducing.........

On November the 18th I was dismissed from my job working as a betting shop manager, as a result, wrecking my dream of becoming a betting professional, along the lines of my hero, the Racing Post's resident alcoholic, Steve Palmer.
Sir Palmer's devotion to the gentlemanly arts of drinking and gambling are well documented in his blog, which at varying times, i shall aim to publish on this site.
Reading his attempts at using his weekly wage to reach a target of £30,000, thus enabling him to retire from work as a sports betting journalist and become a full time gambler, has at times, made me feel so much better about myself and my lack of addictions.
For me sports betting is a hobby, I enjoy watching any number of live sports and like to have an opinion to back, betting on matches featuring teams I don't support just leads to greater interest in the result.
As I mentioned at the start of this blog, I was dismissed from work on 11/18/09 and much to my chagrin, has resulted in a severe lack of opinion funds!(betting monies)
On the other hand it has resulted in me becoming ever so much more choosy with my picks, thus bringing about a better strike rate.
With this blog I'll be discussing opinions I have on ante post wagers on sporting events coming soon, diary like updates on personal ups and downs and pointing any followers (hopefully) in the direction of a few winners.
C'MON!!
